Your children will love a trip to Great Smoky Mountains National Park just as much as you do—if you plan it right. Here are a few kid-specific activities designed just for them!
Junior Ranger Program for Children Ages 5-12
Pick up a Junior Ranger booklet for $2.50 at any park visitor center or at the Cades Cove or Elkmont campgrounds. Complete the activities in the booklet and then stop by a visitor center to talk to a ranger and receive your Junior Ranger badge! You can become a Junior Ranger at any time of year, but during spring, summer, and fall, ranger-led Junior Ranger programs are offered especially for children.
Want to get the booklet before you head for the park? You can also purchase Junior Ranger booklets and other kids books at the Great Smoky Mountains Association Bookstore online.
Ranger-Led Activities for Children
Youngsters will love the series of children-specific ranger programs offered throughout the summer at Great Smoky. The offerings change from year to year, so check the Great Smoky Mountains National Park website to check up on the current menu. Past programs have included family bonfires and ranger presentations geared toward kids.
